July Checking Series Registration
OUR CLINICS FOCUS ON:
ANGLING – BODY POSITIONING – GIVING/RECEIVING CHECKS – PUCK PROTECTION
It is critical for all bantam players to learn the proper techniques of body checking. This is an instrumental part of the game and a skill that must be executed correctly, in order to continue to progress and have success at high levels of hockey.
What is checking? It is when a player uses physical force to separate the puck from an opposing player. When executing a body check, contact must NEVER happen from the rear of a player. The physical contact must happen from the front, diagonally from the front or from the side of a player.
It can be very challenging for many players making the transition from non-contact to contact play. This is why it is crucial for players to learn how to properly position themselves in a way so they can absorb the contact from an opposing player and reduce the possibility of injury. Likewise, players must know how to give a check properly to reduce the possibility of injuring an opposing player and/or also themselves in the process.
