Bill Katinsky was 10-years old when his family got cable TV and he remembers watching a NY Rangers game like it was yesterday. From that moment on, he was hooked on hockey and never looked back.
Bill never forgot the impact of his very first coach. “Gene Katz from the Ramapo Saints took me on a team I had no business being on in the first year of ever playing hockey and worked very hard to get me progressing quickly.”
In addition, to Gene Katz, Bill’s coaching style and philosophy was heavily influenced by Jimmy Elia and Ken Scarpa. Jimmy was Bill’s 18U AAA coach with the NJ Devils Youth and taught Bill “how a coach should treat players and their development”. Ken showed Bill “how to deal with players correctly when teaching them.”
Katinsky played Tier 1 and Junior hockey with the NJ Devils Youth and North Jersey Avalanche. He also played for Bergen Catholic High School and Wayne Hills High School which he is the current all-time leading scorer.
Bill would continue on to play in college for William Paterson University. He became team captain and a leading goal scorer. Bill is currently a top 5 goal scorer for William Paterson University.
As an assistant coach, Bill helped lead the William Paterson University Pioneers to three straight League Championships and four straight National Championship appearances.
When Bill was the head coach for Wayne Valley High School, he was named the 2010-2011 Passaic County Coach of the Year and NJ Power Ranking Coach of the Year. That year, Katinsky led his team to a 20-3-4 record, the County and League Championships and a first-ever appearance in the State Quarterfinals.
Today, Bill’s focus has turned to helping youth hockey players realize their full potential by strengthening their skill developmental for their LONG-TERM hockey growth.
